 ABOUT CROXLEY GREEN

The name Croxley is derived from "Croc's Lea" (Lea meaning a field or wooded area) and is referred to in an eighth century manuscript when in 790 AD Offa, the Saxon King of Mercia gave "Croc's Lea" to the Bishop of St Albans. "Croc's Lea" is mentioned in the Domesday Book and Croxley still boasts a tithe barn built between 1396 and 1401. The Croxley Great Barn is the oldest structure still standing in the area and was used by monks when it was in its original location in the grounds of Croxley Manor. The pictures show that there is a much needed remedial work required to bring it back to its full glory. Further details may be found at www.croxleygreatbarn.co.uk
