COLOUR VISION

IS YOURS NORMAL?

ARE YOU COLOUR BLIND?

About 8% of males and 0.5% of females are colour defectives and have difficulty distinguishing some colours, particularly red and green. The effect of losing your colour vision can be seen here.

Can you and your children see the coloured numbers below?  If so, your colour vision is probably normal.  If not, it is advisable to have a fuller vision assessment.

 DIFFERENT COLOURS
According to Theo Gimbel in his book of Colour Healing (Gaia Books Limited 1994) colours can affect us in different ways and the power of colour can be harnessed to promote well being.

RED

Makes rooms look smaller, increases pulse rate, simulates inhalation, alertness, judgement and activity.

ORANGE

Stimulates and enhances movement and dance, encourages joyfulness and brings a feeling of lightness and pleasure.

GREEN

Promotes balance and careful judgement. Makes rooms look flat, dead and empty. Causes indecision and arrests movement.

YELLOW

Encourages detachment, nervousness, shallow breathing and is suitable for mature minds.

TURQUOISE

Cool, refreshing, calming, soothing and is good for nervous inflammation.

Mr Gimbel also suggests the use of what he refers to as an 'eye healing lamp' to treat cataract and glaucoma. He recommends viewing the turquoise followed by the red filter for 20-30 seconds and looking at the black, white or grey base between each filter, finishing with the turquoise and its after image and doing this twice daily. As there appears to be little scientific basis for these claims D & J Brower Opticians cannot recommend Mr Gimbel's procedures.
